I’ve started to follow Golf this year and I’ll display my betting cards here. Base Unit Values have been set at $1 for initial tracking purposes.

The table below represents the bet types I’ve made for the 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans PGA team event. I made a betting card with a focus on Top 5 & Top 10 bets. The card includes the players/teams I’ve selected along with their odds at time of bet placement prior to tournament start.

*Card Final update 4/23/23:

Nick Taylor / Adam Hadwin roared their way back up today to grab 2nd overall. Beau Hossler / Wyndham Clark grabbed 3rd overall and Matthew NeSmith / Taylor Moore tied for 4th with Xander Schauffele / Patrick Cantlay to give our card 3 outright finishes in the T5. I was aiming for 2 for a decent profit on the T5, so 3 is quite glorious.

Card Review:

The “CM” numbers represent the CultureManor modeled ranking for the team would place compared to other teams. Then there are the “CM” best Player rankings which is where CM models the best player on each team to finish in a skilled-adjusted field PGA tournament. (Baseline is best combined finishes for best players note this is a PGA aggregate so the numbers may be less than 0 after adjusment, the key is the lower the better).

These two rankings were chosen for this tournament as this one is a team event alternating between four-ball and foursomes. The logic is that if the two players are playing their best there will be a lot of excess production as only a single players performance on a hole is taken for the score in four-ball; as a result the best player on the team could be the exclusive contributor to a teams perfomance on these days of the tournament. In the foursome format the players alternate shots so here the team average skill is going to be more important each hole.

The players below on the card created represent what should be the best ranking selections where the odds do not carry too much house vigorish. If vigorish wasn’t a factor I’d most likely have gone with Schauffele and Cantlay in this card (Team Rank -1.9, Best Player -5.8). After betting on a handful of other golf tournaments this year I’ve realized that the vigorish on a golf tournament card is the biggest hurdle to overcome besides making sure to pick winners.

I hope to explain further in future posts my golf betting strategy and how cards can be best positioned to make profit, as after all that should be the main reason why you are betting on sports in the first place.
