The card sees the Dodgers up against a tough opponent of Atlanta, but it feels good to actually have a playoff bound team as a pick for once. Tampa Bay got the job done earlier in the week.
August is officially over and it was quite the disaster. 84.3 units lost overall, with most of it being the result of a horrifying first half of the month where 109.6 units were lost in the first 16 days.
- I blame most of it on reckless bankroll management, setting the churn floor at 20 games instead of 30. It was at 20 since mid July, and it worked out for awhile but it eventually caught up.
- 2nd was an attempt to FADE Oakland, but as I’ve proven time and again this season any strategy that runs counterintuitive to the positive eROI (+EV) of the model usually ends up a loser.
- 3rd was a brief attempt to remove Fangraphs from the model for a 3 day period that ended up blowing up and didn’t seem to smart long term. I quickly reverted back to the current model 11.0
The model has held steady with no changes since 8/15. It has netted 23 units of profit since that time on 236 units bet, so close to 10% ROI. Not too shabby.
Team Review:
- Colorado continues to be a bane to the bankroll with bullpen meltdowns every game and responsible for most of the losses last month, close to 40 units. But the model says keep riding, although today is STRETCH bet territory so their stamp of approval each day has been wavering.
- Washington was the biggest winner of the month with about 40 units won to their name. They could be on shaky ground with lots of goodwill built up the past month, but if they revert to their bad form it could be another tough fall like Colorado is going through. Washington at least has a pretty solid bullpen these days, so hopefully that will allow them to keep winning games as big underdogs.
