June 9, 2023 MLB Baseball Betting Cards details:

No changes today.

Overall the lines are feeling tighter as the season progresses. Probably natural as bookmakers get more adept at reviewing team’s cohesiviness in the new season. The edges are getting harder to find. I have a few ideas in the pipeline that I may have time to test in the coming days. I’m still considering blowing up the model to create my own proprietary base WP% calculation instead of defaulting to FanGraph’s, but that’s the nuclear option at this point.

Also today FD-Contra bets have a chance to shine as two more are on the docket today. Dodger’s were an odd one as the Phillies met the qualifying criteriea by being a MAIN pick and having -104 odds and a 35.1% eROI. I had no rule in place to prevent any bet that had negative odds for FD-Contra picks as it’s automatic opposition to the MAIN pick with negative odds and +15% eROI which Philly met.

This is an odd one, but kind of makes sense as the Dodgers recently ran into some good teams of the Yankees and Cincinnati with new call up Elly De La Cruz. Philly probably shouldn’t have been such a heavy favorite in the model as that recent downtrend by the Dodger’s is likely not a conviction of bad play, but more bad luck.

In summary I’m looking forward to the FD-Contra bets today and allowing the negative odds to return here in this scenario.
